Behind Bars

The cold, gray walls enclose you. Time crawls. Each day resembles the last: a monotonous cycle punctuated by meals and patrols. Communication with the outside reality is restricted. Hope becomes your constant accomplice. You scramble for purpose in this confined existence.

You try to hold onto your mind. There are flickers of humanity: a helpful guard, a brief conversation with another cellmate, the rare kindness of a visitor. But these moments are fleeting, quickly swallowed by the harsh reality of serving your time.

The weight of your past bears down you. Redemption feel like distant, elusive fantasies. You contemplate if you'll ever truly break free, not just from the bars, but from the emotional shackles that enfold you within.

Conviction and Consequence

A crushing weight prison settles upon them/her/him, a suffocating blanket woven from the threads of unspoken copyright. A symphony of noises plays on the other side, yet they/she/he are left behind/cut off/separated, a solitary figure/soul/being in a sea of soundless space/unheard pleas/mute desperation. The only company they have is the echoes/ghostly whispers/silent screams of their own thoughts/memories/yearnings.

The Structure Have Ears

If they think that barrier can keep whispers, consider again. Walls, including those other objects, are often of hearing. Ancient legends warn individuals that walls have ears, and while this may seem similar to a legend, the truth is often unsettling.

  • Especially, walls themselves can preserve the memories of earlier events.

So, think twice about what you reveal within walls. They may be paying attention more than you think.

The Weight of Innocence Lost
